Change in Bid Threshold for Contracts

Jan 9, 2013 | Legal Developments and News

Effective January 1, 2013, the new bid threshold for school districts, except for construction projects, is $83,400. The new bid threshold for community college districts has not been announced yet. Historically, the bid threshold is usually the same as for school districts. We will keep you informed as to any new announcements.

California Public Contract Code requires community college and school districts to competitively bid and award contracts involving an expenditure in excess of the bid threshold for: (1) purchase of equipment, materials, or supplies to be furnished, sold, or leased to the district; (2) services that are not construction services; and (3) repairs, including maintenance, that are not public projects. The bid threshold is adjusted annually to reflect the percentage change in the annual average value of the Implicit Price Deflator.

The bid threshold for construction services is not adjusted annually and remains at $15,000 unless a district has adopted the Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Act.

If you have questions about bid thresholds, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at any of our statewide offices.
