Payroll Specialist/Accounting Clerk

Mid-sized education law firm with statewide practice representing school and community college districts seeks a Payroll Specialist/Accounting Clerk.  If you are interested in being part of a team that supports the education of students in California, we encourage you to apply.  The ideal candidate will possess at least two years of accounts payable and five years of payroll experience.

Candidates will be considered for the following DWK office: San Francisco

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for all payroll operations, including processing semi-monthly payroll from start to finish, and maintaining appropriate and required records and documentation
  • Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of the Firm’s payroll system
  • Process invoices, expense reimbursements, and other payment-related documents and processes with a high degree of accuracy, as well as maintain supporting documentation and files
  • Support the firm’s credit card program, including issuing and canceling firm credit cards using the vendor’s credit card portal, maintaining related invoices, and investigating unauthorized charges and errors
  • Coordinate employee reimbursements and manage vendor payments
  • Maintain, review, and reconcile records for accuracy
  • Interface with internal departments, management, vendors, and clients
  • Provide department back-up assistance as needed
  • Collect and distribute firm mail

Qualifications include:

  • Strong writing, communication, and client service skills
  • Ability to work efficiently to prioritize work effectively and achieve solutions under deadlines
  • Ability to listen, comprehend and take appropriate action
  • Proven track record of applying sound judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of California wage and hour laws and payroll taxes
  • Experience and knowledge of SurePoint, Aderant or Elite client accounting experience a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED required.  Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years accounts payable experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent payroll processing experience using a payroll system such as Paycom, ADP or Paychex
  • Ability to travel to the East Bay office at least once per week through December 31, 2026
  • Law firm experience preferred

The hourly rate range the Firm reasonably expects to pay candidates for this position is $40.00 – $50.00.  The final hourly rate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications and other job-related factors permitted by law.  In addition to the offered salary, our comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) with matching and profit-sharing options; sick and vacation time, along with paid holidays.  We offer additional voluntary benefits designed to meet your individual needs.
