Mid-sized education law firm with statewide practice representing school and community college districts seeks an Associate to join its Business, Property and Construction Law Practice Group. Candidates will be considered for the following DWK offices (Hybrid): San Francisco, Long Beach, San Diego, Sacramento, East Bay, Fresno
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three years of legal experience (transactional and/or litigation) working on business, real property, and/or construction matters.
In this role, you will work in close collaboration with knowledgeable and experienced attorneys to assist with the diverse transactional and litigation legal needs of California public school districts. Representative matters could include:
- Providing guidance on compliance with laws and regulatory oversight processes and agencies, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Title 5, Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Division of State Architect (DSA), Office of Public School Construction (OPSC)
- Helping clients navigate through complex and evolving areas of law, including construction delivery methods and disputes, land acquisition and disposition processes, state funded educational programs, developer fees
- Assisting clients with public procurement and contracts, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of types of agreements, such as construction contracts, special and professional services agreements, facilities use agreements and leases, purchase and sale agreements, among others
- Assisting with litigation support tasks and case preparation, including discovery, legal research, motion writing, document review, and other relevant tasks
- Conducting research and legal analysis of pertinent laws (case law, Government Code, Education Code, Public Contract Code, Public Resources Code, etc.) and performing legislative and policy analysis
- Preparing and drafting board resolutions, agenda items, administrative policies, correspondence, client memorandums, and other legal documents
- Providing general assistance in identifying legal issues, developing strategies, and recommending solutions to serve client needs
Qualifications include:
- Excellent analytical, writing, research, and communication skills
- Flexibility, initiative, and willingness to learn about and work on a broad variety of legal matters arising in representing public entities
- Commitment to providing exceptional client service and maintaining client satisfaction
- Excellent judgment and the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Demonstrated success working as a team player in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work independently
- Litigation experience preferred
- Admission to the California State Bar
Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
The anticipated annual salary wage range the Firm reasonably expects to pay candidates for this position is $130,000 to $175,000. The final annual salary wage offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience in the job, type and years of experience in the industry, education, and other factors.
