Tips and Tricks to Improve Your Facility Use Agreement
School districts permit outside entities to use their facilities for a myriad of purposes. Such public use of facilities is subject to the requirements of the Civic Center Act and Governing Board policies, and the terms of use should be set forth in a facility use agreement. However, if poorly prepared, the facility use agreement may not adequately protect the district from liability. This mini workshop will provide practical advice for Civic Center Act policies, procedures and practices, and terms to include in facility use agreements.

Public Records Act Compliance for School Construction
Districts frequently receive requests under the California Public Records Act (“CPRA”) for records related to school construction projects. Requests can come from many sources – labor organizations, unsuccessful bidders, or community members opposed to a project. This workshop will cover CPRA basics, and then apply them to specific requests that districts face regarding their school construction projects. Attendees will learn tips and tricks for managing CPRA requests efficiently, and avoiding burdensome responses that can potentially eat up the time of staff who would otherwise be working on district projects.

Top 5 Things That a District Is Looking for in a Proposed Change Order
Despite our best laid plans, change orders usually come up during a project. For the stability of the project, the district and the contractor can hopefully agree on the change in contract price and/or contract time and keep the progress going. Our panel of district representatives will discuss entitlement to change orders, as well as what the district is looking for as backup to a change order request.
