Erin Dervin is Of Counsel in the Sacramento office and a member of the firm’s Labor, Employment and Personnel Practice Group. Erin’s practice focuses on counseling public school employers on labor, employment, and personnel issues. She handles certificated and classified discipline matters on behalf of Districts and County Offices of Education. Erin appears before state and federal agencies such as the Public Employment Relations Board, Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Office of Administrative Hearings, as well as superior courts all over the State of California. She has also argued employment cases before the Third and Fifth District Courts of Appeal.

Prior to joining DWK, Erin spent fifteen years as a Deputy District Attorney in Shasta County, California, where she prosecuted a variety of cases, including complex financial crimes. While a prosecutor, she also worked as an adjunct professor at National University and taught classes in Criminal Justice. She then went into private practice in Sacramento, working as a labor lawyer representing public employees in collective bargaining, discipline matters and criminal defense and was named a Sacramento Magazine Superlawyer in 2019. She has represented management in labor and employment matters handling labor negotiations, personnel investigations, and issues related to the California Public Records Act. She also has experience advising the governing entities of small cities and special districts regarding conflicts of interest and open meeting laws. Erin has conducted trainings in the areas of discrimination and sexual harassment prevention, labor relations, public employee discipline and appeal, critical incident investigations, and family care and medical leave laws.
