Matthew J. Tamel
Matt Tamel is Managing Shareholder of the firm’s East Bay as well as our San Francisco office and Chair of the Students and Special Education Practice Group. Matt has dedicated nearly his entire career to public education. He worked as a public school teacher (English) in the San Francisco Bay Area for almost 10 years before becoming an attorney. For six years, Matt represented public school and community college districts in the areas of personal injury, employment, and civil rights. Since joining DWK, Matt has counseled school districts on special education matters, compliance with federal and state student education laws, responding to pupil records and California Public Records Act requests, and Uniform Complaint Procedures, to name a few areas. He has represented school district clients before the Office of Administrative Hearings and in California Superior Courts and U.S. District Courts throughout the state. As a litigator, he has represented and defended clients in trial and at depositions, mediations and arbitrations. He has also written and successfully argued motions in federal and state court, including demurrers, discovery motions and motions for summary judgment.
