Matt Juhl-Darlington is a Shareholder in the firm’s Chico and San Francisco offices. He is a member of the Students and Special Education (SPED), Labor, Employment and Personnel (LEAP), and Board Ethics, Transparency and Accountability (BETA) Practice Groups. Prior to rejoining DWK, Matt was the founder of Matt Juhl-Darlington & Associates.

In Matt’s practice in the LEAP group he regularly works with districts in the areas of union negotiations, personnel discipline and investigations, employee complaints, and resolves disputes within the jurisdiction of PERB and OAH.  Within the SPED group Matt assists districts with resolving cases filed at OAH, including participations in mediation and hearings. Matt actively advises districts in student discipline and interventions and assists with the expulsion process, including representing districts in expulsion hearings with administrative hearing panels and appeals to the County Board.  Due to the complexities facing board governance, Matt regularly advises districts on Brown Act issues and participates in numerous board meetings.

As a law student, Matt externed for the Honorable Judge Susan Illston of the Northern District in San Francisco, interned as a Rubin Fellow in the Juvenile Division in the Defender General’s office for the State of Vermont in Montpelier, and was a board member of the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review. Prior to law school Matt taught seventh and eighth grade at-risk youth in a self-contained Opportunity Program for the Paradise Unified School District, and interned with Congressman Don Edwards of San Jose.
