Daniel M. McElhinney is an Associate in the San Luis Obispo Office. He has represented school districts in numerous education law matters related to student issues and First Amendment Rights, employee relations, including collective bargaining, and has advised on governance issues such as the Brown Act and the Public Records Act. Daniel is a part of the firm’s litigation group and labor, employment, and personnel group. He is also a certified mediator and has experience with alternative dispute resolution, helping districts resolve conflicts without litigating. He has successfully conducted several mediations and as a student, has co-mediated several 42 U.S.C. section 1983 prisoner civil rights cases. He often presents and trains clients on multiple student issues, including but not limited to, AB1266 and best practices for non-discrimination and legal protections for transgender students.
