Amanda Johnston is Special Counsel in the San Diego office.  She is a member of the Students and Special Education and Labor, Employment and Personnel Practice Groups. Prior to joining Dannis Woliver Kelley, Amanda served as an Associate Attorney at another firm in San Diego, where she was the lead attorney for the firm’s special education practice. In addition to her special education work, she represented school districts and other public entities in general litigation and employment matters. Amanda has represented clients in healthcare litigation, medical licensing, antitrust, business, and personal injury matters as well as in complex class actions. She also worked as an Administrative Hearing Officer presiding over hearings for municipal code violations and parking citation appeals.

While attending the University of San Diego School of Law, Amanda served the San Diego Climate and Energy Law Journal as the Articles Editor. She also received many awards, including the Award for Excellence in Written and Oral Advocacy, as well as the Award for Best Analysis, Advanced Legal Writing. She has a number of internships under her belt, including an internship with the San Diego Unified School District and University of San Diego Education and Disability Clinic. In her second year, she worked as a policy intern for the Center for Public Interest Law. As part of this internship, she closely followed and analyzed all agency decisions including rule making, legislation, and litigation.
